Fixen Chiropractic offers a variety of services. Here is an overview of each:

Chiropractic Care

Doctors of chiropractic are trained in low force manual techniques, but can also use activator methods as well, depending on the patient's condition and preference. The first visit will consist of a complete and detailed health history. This will allow us to get to know you better as a whole. This will be followed by a physical examination to include chiropractic, orthopedic, neurological and possible x-ray studies.

The doctor will review your health history and examination findings. The doctor will explain the findings to you, and recommend a treatment plan. In addition to chiropractic manipulation, recommendations for other therapies such as heat, ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation etc. may be given. A treatment plan may also include nutritional advice, exercise and suggestions on how you can help yourself by modifying your daily activities.

When you receive your first chiropractic manipulation you may or may not hear the vertebrae move. You may feel the vertebrae move, but usually this is not painful unless there is a lot of muscle spasm and swelling in the area. In that case the chiropractor will precede the adjustment with some type of physical therapy such as hot or cold packs, massage or electro-muscle stimulation to relax the muscle.

Physiotherapy

Adjunctive procedures such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation are a complement to the chiropractic adjustment. These help in reducing irritation, pain, and muscle spasm, as well as aiding in general relaxation.

Digital X-ray Examination

Fixen Chiropractic is equipped with digital x-ray equipment. After the examination, if a patient's condition requires x-ray clarification, the proper films can be taken and analyzed in our clinic. X-rays may help rule out problems, decide if the patient is a chiropractic case, and determine the best possible treatment technique and plan. If you have had recent x-rays taken elsewhere we may be able to use them to learn more about your condition.

Nutritional Assessment

Nutritional counseling and nutritional support is available for patients. As many symptoms and conditions are partially or completely due to nutritional needs, offering nutritional support is a natural extension of the care available through our clinic.

Corrective Exercises

Rehabilitation in conjunction with the patient's treatment plan of scheduled adjustments and therapy is imperative in bringing the patient to a complete state of recovery for their injuries and/or problem areas. Exercise and rehabilitation instruction aids in focusing on restoring health to the whole person.

DOT Certification

Dr. Fixen is certified to perform DOT physicals and random drug screening services. The DOT physical examination will help certify that a driver does not have any physical, mental, or other conditions that may affect his or her ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is another form of alternative medicine. It has been around for thousands of years and was first discovered and used in China. The science behind Acupuncture lies in the healing art of energy flow throughout the body. The Chinese believe that individuals house energy that travels along channels throughout the body, and if those channels are interrupted, the body is not able to function properly. By using Acupuncture, we are able to reset these channels and allow the energy to flow properly.

When a patient is treated using Acupuncture, the doctor finds out, after taking a thorough history, what the cause of the problem is, and comes up with a treatment plan specifically for that patient. The patient is then treated using specific points along the channels that are interrupted using tiny, sterile, disposable needles.

Patients seek acupuncture for various conditions including neck pain, low back pain, headaches, shoulder pain, knee pain, ankle pain, infertility, menopause, stress, fibromyalgia and much more!

Massage

We offer the benefits of massage therapy at Premier Massage. The website for Premier Massage is located at www.premier-massage.com. Massage offers a vast array of manual soft-tissue techniques. Some types of massage provide general relaxation, while others have long term therapeutic effects. The benefits one receives from massage include muscle relaxation, improved flexibility, reduced pain, and better circulation.

These are the techniques that our chiropractors might apply in order to correct any problems that you might be experiencing.

Diversified

Diversified Technique is the classic chiropractic technique, developed by D.D. Palmer, DC. The focus is on restoration tonormal biomechanical function, and correction of subluxation. In addition, the technique can be used to adjust the extremities.Motion palpation and full spine, hands-on techniques are used to deliver a thrust, which may make an osseous "popping"sound as the adjustment is given.

Activator

Activator is light non-forceful chiropractic adjustment, developed by W.C. Lee D.C. and A.W. Fuhr D.C., which uses anactivator instrument. The instrument controls the force and speed of the adjustment. A leg test is also utilized totell the doctor if a subluxation is present.

In order to promote a more healthy lifestyle, here are a few tips from Dr. Fixen:

Preventive Care

Preventative chiropractic treatment attempts to maintain normal body structure and function, thus preventing problems or minimizing those problems that do occur. Preventative care involves periodic evaluation and chiropractic treatment to help prevent problems.

Office Ergonomics

Computers are a part of life these days. If the user performs highly repetitive tasks for prolongs periods in the same posture, discomforts may be caused in localized area of the body. Repetitive actions such as typing, looking at the computer monitor, sitting for long periods, and completing paper work, can strain the muscles and tendons in the neck, shoulders, and back causing the body and mind to fatigue. Here are some key things to consider while at work:

  1. Select adjustable furniture for the workstation that allows you to shift to different seated postures every time you want to. This helps different muscle groups to provide support while others rest.
  2. Your work area should be spacious enough to let you use the mouse with either hand alternately. Thus the tendons and muscles of the free hand get enough relaxation.
  3. Jobs that involve more repeated tasks or prolonged static postures may lead to muscular strain. Several short breaks or relaxed pauses should be taken throughout the day. The users should stand, stretch, and move around during such breaks. This increases blood circulation and gives enough time for the muscles to relax.
  4. Try to mix computer tasks and non-computer tasks alternately in all possible situations. This encourages the movement of different parts of the body by using different muscle groups.
  5. If your job involves speaking over the phone for a long time, do use a speakerphone or headset to avoid strain on your neck, upper back, and shoulders.

Sleep Position

Never sleep on your stomach. This position puts stress on the spine by increasing the normal curves of the neck and low back resulting from additional nerve compression and stress to the joints.

Do sleep on your side with the knees slightly bent and one pillow between the knees. Pull your pillow down into the shoulder to support the neck.

For sleeping on your back, place two pillows under the knees to reduce stress to the low back, neck and mid back. In order to support the neck, the pillow must accept the weight of the back of the head.

Diet

Good nutrition and stress management techniques will optimize your health and promote spinal health. Proper nutrition is required and necessary in reaching and maintaining optimal health. The body and mind require the proper nutrients to grow and keep one healthy. Here are a few tips to follow:

  • Eat all of the fresh vegetables and fruits you like.
  • Minimize or eliminate salt and sugar in your diet. Use honey, herbs, and spices to sweeten and season your foods.
  • Avoid eating fried and over-processed foods. Bake, broil, or boil instead.
  • Eat healthy fats and avoid eating large amounts of red meat.
  • Read labels and avoid chemical additives that color or lengthen shelf life.
  • Drink adequate amounts of water.
  • Consider taking a good quality multi-vitamin. Today, our soil and food lacks many essential vitamins and minerals necessary for good health.

Full Spine

Adjusting helps correct vertebral subluxations. Correcting subluxations reduces pain and inflammation, reduces muscle spasm and tension, normalizes spinal biomechanics and more importantly, can remove nerve irritation and interference which can improve overall health and wellness of the individual. Chiropractic adjustments are the only way to eliminate vertebral subluxations and only the chiropractor is trained to detect subluxations and deliver the chiropractic spinal adjustment to correct subluxations. Looking at the entire spine as whole will improve the overall health of an individual instead of focusing only on individual parts.

Extremities

In addition to adjusting the spine and pelvis, almost every other joint of the body can be adjusted by a chiropractor. This would include: the jaw, ribs, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, fingers, hip, knee, ankle, foot, and toes. Just like the spine, problems can arise in the extremities that may need to be addressed to avoid chronic problems. Extremity adjusting can relieve pain and enhance the function of the entire body. Athletes in particular find significant benefits.

Family Practice

At Fixen Chiropractic all of our adjustments are tailored to each individual, from infants to seniors. Do you know your nervous system controls the function of every cell, organ and tissue of your body? That's why spinal health is so important. Has your spine, your child?s spine or your loved ones spines been checked? Children deserve the best chance to express health and reach their peak potential. Throughout pregnancy, birth, and childhood, chiropractic offers choices and benefits so everyone has the chance to reach greater health and well-being.

Postural Training

Over time, poor posture may be caused by habits from everyday activities such as sitting in office chairs, looking at the computer, driving, standing for long periods of time, or even sleeping. Poor posture can easily become second nature, causing or aggravating episodes of back pain and damaging spinal structures. Fortunately, the main factors affecting posture and ergonomics are completely within one?s ability to control and are not difficult to change. Posture is a reflection of the way in which the skeletal system is aligned. Regular chiropractic visits are essential in keeping the musculoskeletal system healthy and aid in supporting good posture. Not to mention physical benefits - the average person can add 1-2 inches to their height, 1 inch to their shoulder width and reduce their waistline by 2-3 inches purely by improving posture. Ultimately, people who suffer from low back, neck or shoulder pain can always trace the roots of these problems to poor posture.
